Wireless Lynksys and linux?

I have a linksys wmp54g wireless adapter and a wrt54gs router. In ubuntu I see my home SSID but I cannot connect even with security turned off. I have tried ndiswrapper without any success. If anyone has been successful with this hardware with any linux redistribution (preferably open suse, ubuntu, fedora, or Debian) please give me a full tutorial.
