Windows Xp?
Hi, is there any way to re-install windows when you bought the machine with XP pre-installed (bought new from store)? Any help would be really appreciated.

Yes, most of the time there is.Dell, for example, will provide a restore CD disc that allows you to format and install Windows clean, without all the junk that came on the PC. They also include an option on the hard drive, where data is stored on a hidden partition. Using it, you can restore the PC back to the state it was in when it was first shipped to you.If you just received a new PC, contact the store or manufacturer for details. The support for that should be free right now, and they'll have the exact steps you need to follow.

Go to C:/Windows/i386 and burn the entire folder to a CD. Then boot from this CD. Otherwise, check if the computer came with a System recovery CD, or has a built -in System recovery program (it should have one or the other). Or call the manufacturer of your particular PC and ask for a recovery CD (may have to pay for it)ORemail me...

The retailer should have supplied CD's with all the software. In Australia, by law they must supply these CD's so if you don't have them, you should consult the retailer. The other way to reinstall, is to download a vracked version from Limewire.com - the only problem with these versions is that you cannot download updates from Microsoft - if you get a good anti virus program, you don't need these updates anyway.

As long as you have the sticker with the product key on your computer you can reinstall. The disk with XP on it may be labelled something like a restore disk. If there was no disk with it contact the seller or manufacturer of the computer and they should supply one. Or you could just borrow a disk from a friend or neighbour.

If the Person who sold you the computer was a reputable seller, he should have supplied you with a genuine windows disc. if you have this disc, you can place it in your drive and restart the computer, it should start preparing to install a fresh copy over your previous installation. the instructions on screen are fairly simple. if you dont have a disc, return to your store and request a disc. if they cant supply you a disc, then you may possibly have a genuine copy of windows on your computer as the shop is required to supply you with a disc with any computer with windows xp installed. make sure you back up anything important on your computer before you reinstall. this includes favourites, my documents, outlook emails etc.... also be aware of any programs you may want after youve reinstalled... there are plenty of reference materials on the internet to help you with this.hope this helps.
