Windows Vista keeps crashing upon start-up?...

...Has this happened to anyone else? When booting up Vista goes in to a check-disk mode and trys to repair the problem then reboots... the same process reoccurs, ground hog day. I re-installed a new version and it worked for about 3 boot-ups and now the problem has happened again. Could it be a virus lurking in the system, a hardware problem or is Vista just Sh1t?
