Windows/Macintosh Disk Formatting Questions?

My dad has a Windows computer, and put some photos on a disk for me. However, I use a Macintosh, and when I put the disk in, it tell me that it cannot be read. How can I open the files on my computer? Also, how can I eject the disk? Sorry, I haven't had a Mac for very long, in case you couldn't tell. =]I have OS X, and it's a compact disk.
