When will there be a removable media disc out...
...with greater capacity than a DVD?

I think I heard that they will come out sometime next year, early next year. Also, I heard that they will be high definition but thats as much as I know. Sorry.

Of course, because this new media will be a capitalist one, they will dangle their new shiny discs in our faces before we can get ahold of one. I would say it will be out definitely in 2006. There has been MUCH debate over which format to be the new standard...many companies have tried to promote their own proprietary discs as being the next "big thing". However, I am almost positive that Blu-Ray has come out on top and, from the last estimate, should have a capacity around 28gb...which is pretty damned exciting if you ask me.

I believe the major manufacturers like Sony, Phillips, and Pioneer are still fighting over specs and the movie industry is trying to make them include copy protection into the hardware. It is called blu ray (you can follow the fight in PCMag.com)they also mentioned another technology that will leapfrog over that, some sort of half machine half organic bubble memory filled with goop like the inside of the aliens brains in the movie mars attacks.

There already is. it's called a DLT tape drive. Look at Exabyte's link below it's 800 GB tape backup. But your going to pay some seroius cash for it.
