why wont my movies play that i burned from laptop in my

dvd player? i have a dell inspiron.1721, laptop, i burn movies all the time from the internet onto a dvd disc with no problem and it plays in my dvd player. now when i burn the movies it will only play on the laptop, is there an option to change the settings where i can watch burned movies on my dvd player?
