why are my songs on not downloading onto my...

...ipod even though i bought them? i bought like 4 songs on itunes and my ipod isnt full. it isnt syncing eather. i dont get it. the connection isnt bad because it charges when i hook it up. somebody help me! i want to be able to listen to those songs on my ipod soon.
