Why does WIndows XP crash whenever I try to open

some .WMV files sent to me.? I regularly get e-mail from Canada that includes a .WMV file attached. If On opening the attachments most of them start to load in Media Player but then I get a total crash with a screen full of text telling me the system has shut down to protect the PC. Can anybody help
