why does my internet connection keep going off??

can any one tell me why my internet connection keeps cutting off? the tool bar at the bottom of the page doesnt show which site i am using for instance it should say yahoo answers on there now but all it is showing is loads of squares!!! and something keeps popping up in the top left hand corner but just flashes on and off....please help its soooooo annoying xxxx
