what is the exercise bike good for?

and how can i get motivated to use it? i love to walk for exercise but it's been raining a lot lately so i can't go out. how can i motivate myself to go on the bike for 30 mins?To Add:I am very commited when it comes to walking. I usually walk for 40 mins 5 times a week but haven't done so for the last few days due to the rain. I bought my exercise bike last Xmas and used it for a couple of months every day & then I got tired of it! BUT I really want to get back on the bike and perhaps use it 3 times a week or even 2 times a week and then the rest of the time walk! But I would like to lose some weight about a stone and I think the bike could help? Anymore advice =)

Park it right in front of the tv. Eventually you'll sit on it while watching and maybe it will get to be a habit SmileBut then, I have a weight machine sitting in my office with books all over it..sigh..

Hi BellAn exercise bike is a convenient and effective way to develop:musculoskeletal (muscles and bones) strength in the legs and foerarmsincrease respiratory efficiency and cardiovascular vascular efficiencyand lose weight if you're on an weight loss diet.MotivationHave you bought the bike, or has it been given to you?It might be difficult to muster motivation if you have been given it without any particular need in mind. However, you might have purchased the cycle for a particular purpose e.g, weight loss, hobby, increase health or strength, or maybe all four, then you should be able to get motivated to use it quite easily. To avoid procrastinating, use the cycle at the beginning or end of the day, or at a time when you are unlikely to be distracted. I said 20 minutes too, and the reason for this is that it's easier to get on the bike regularly if you know it's only going to take up a few minutes of your time. However, when get on the bike for a session and get to 15 minutes, extend the session to the 30 minutes as originally intended.Don't commit yourself to using the bike every day. Try instead to find three days during the week for cycling and keep to it. After a few weeks the time put aside for cycling will be well incorporated into your regular daily routine, and then you can think about extending your three weekly sessions to four and then five, and finally six. Always keep Sunday or another day of the week for complete rest from physical activity. If you're new to regular physical activity and you still yourself procrastinating and unable to get motivated then visit some health and fitness websites and purchase a monthly magazine on health and fitness, weight loss and dieting, or if you're developing strength buy a magazine on weight training or body building. Reading mags and talking to others who are doing or trying to do similar things as you is an excellent way to get motivated and inspired.Craig

Put it in front of the telly. Tell yourself that you only have to cycle thru the ads. Hey, some is better than none!Otherwise, an exercise bike is handy for drying a tent over. lol
