First of all let me tell you, Its always best to buy an assembled machine.Assembling it yourself would be an added advantage and a wonderful experience.According to the current market scenario, the best configuration available is:Motherboard: P4 - Intel chipset (version: whatever available latest). Always go for an Intel Orignal Chipset to get the maximum performance. WITH TWO IDE and possibly 4 SATA ports.CPU: 3ghz or more.RAM: Atleast 1GB. If possible get 2 strips of 512MB each (Again to improve performance on P4 M-Boards)Harddisk: Atleast 120 GB or more (SATA for faster access)Monitor: Atleast 17" Samsung recommendedRest all is fancy and depends on your choice. Such as Keyboard, Mouse (Optical Recommended), Cabinet (Black with atleast 2 fans)

Hi,the configuration directly depends on ur interests, if u r using it for home then,Motherboard D101 intel, Processor P-4 3.0 MHz, 512MB/1GB ram, 160 gb hdd, are best suited... rest smaller components are not too critical, u can use anyone depending on ur likes and dislikes...
