What is a headless Linux Server?

And also please help me. I want to install Linux on my computer. I'm already running on Windows XP. My hard disk is partitioned into two drives. The first is where XP is running and the other has data files but I can remove it.And also help on what type of Linux to install. Don't know much about the different types yet.
