What is the best and easiest way to upgrade from...

...Windows 98 SE to Windows XP? I want to upgrade a Windows 98 SE to Windows XP. Do I have to format and then install? Is there a way to save the software that is installed? Anything else I need to know? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks..â™¥
