Is there a way to backup how my computer is setup?

I just got a laptop and I spent a week setting it up, changing all the icons, sounds, wallpapers, programs etc and it took a long time to get it exactly how i wanted... is there a way to back up like to a DVD a file that would backup how my computer is setup just in case something happened to it?
