Sound card replacement for a laptop?

My brother told me that it probably isn't possible to change the sound card in my laptop. I have an Acer Aspire with the AMD Sempron Processor 3000+. It worked up until the time I installed "Mozilla Firefox" for my browser. Is it possible to change the sound card for a laptop?
