Psychology 101 or what. Long Term Memory and Short Term Memory.Short usually handles what you did today and the last couple of days.Long Term handles what you learned to do Read, Walk, past experiences and who you know.Short term might say "That looks familiar", Long Term would later (hopefully) find where you stored that memory. There are lots of initial studies to refer to, just look it up on Google.

If you are wanting to study about the brain and it's memory go to your search type in memory of the brain-neurology and this will help you find how the brain holds and uses memory. people sometimes have memory only on one side of the brain (75-80%) and people have memory on both sides of the brain. The reason I know and have studied is I have seizures and wanted to have a surgery done. In order for me to have this surgery they had to test my brain to find out what side of my brain operates what and where my memory was. I then was curious and studied my self. The surgeon found that I have memory on both sides of my brain, the had also found that one side operated only my speech and the other operated everything else. I was not able to get the surgery I wanted, because they would have risked me being paralyzed for life ( only able to speak)
