Piezoelectricity Experiment Setup?

Hello, can anyone help me out with this experiment?I have a voltmeter and some rose quartz. I am trying to apply force to the rose quartz so it will generate piezoelectricity. But where shoud I put the ends of the voltmeter? On the opposite sides where I apply the forces, or the other sides? About how many volts could be expected with a quick tap by a metal screwdriver?
