P4Pe Motherboard Soundmax, changed windows me to

windows xp 2pk upgrade cannot use soundmax, windows media? player cuts in, I have no sounds. I`ve tried downloading soundmax upgrades and removing windows media player, this caused the loss of the icons. Anyone out there can help me.
