My sister's dog actually watches and responds to

television (when he sees animals in particular).? Why is it that most dogs act as if the TV doesn't exist. Even when I turn my dog's head to the TV she acts as if she doesn't see anything.

They're like people, some notice and some don't. My mother in law had a cat that loved to watch hockey. He'd run around the TV like the puck was back there! LMAO

Depends on what's showing! My dog doesn't seem to respond to the TV either, but one time when I was watching the movie "Eight Below", she got really interested because she heard dogs barking and eating chow, and also "saw" dogs running. Maybe you can try a show that has a lot interesting animal sounds and movements? I think it also has to do with the dog's original personality... some dogs just watch TV!

I think it's a sign of intellegence. The smarter ones are more observant and aware.

Different dogs see differently. Shorter nosed dogs generally see the TV screen much better than long nosed dogs. The wider the space between the eyes, the better the close-up vision is, and the less space between the eyes, the better the long distance vision.this article explains how different breeds see things differently, as well> http://www.abc.net.au/catalyst/stories/s953902.htm

Most dogs are very intelligent along with being silly and fun to be around. When a doorbell ring on the TV my dogs run to the front door barking all the way

Different breeds of dogs perceive things like the TV differently. There are eye differences in several of the breeds. Some dogs really see things on the screen. My goldens watch TV and really alert to dogs on the screen. One of them followed each sled dog team across the screen and into the dining room when we watched the start of the Iditarod on TV.

Because tv is not a 3 dimensional image, most dogs don't even register it as being important. Also, things on tv don't have a scent and so much of how dogs perceive things has to so with scent. It's lilke how you can hold up a picture of a dog and your dog won't care, but if they see one on a walk they go crazy!! Or a picture of a steak means nothing, but he comes running from a mile away if he smells one. No 3d image and no scent = no reaction. There are a few dogs that do find tv fascinating and those are the ones that confuse me.
