I would try and upgrade your browser version first to block memory leaks as much as possible then find out what other process is running that's eating up your memory (spyware, virus, photoshop, video editor are all memory hogs) and shut them down. Increase your scratch disk/virtual memory size would help too if you don't mind a little slow performance and tasking the hard drive. 256MB of memory will serve a normal XP machine just fine if a little slow. 512MB is plenty for surfing.

How much memory do you have? What operating system are you running? Are you using the new windows service packs?
