microphone problems?

I am having problems with my microphone. It will work when I do the test in the control panel to set up the microphone, it reads it fine, but when I do a pc call my microphone will not work. I have updated yahoo and still nothing. It is a new microphone so I know that it is working fine. What can I do to resolve this?
