Making a laser via DVD burner laser?

I saw this video on youtube by Kipkay. He took the light bulb out of his flashlight and exchanged it with a DVD burner laser. Look it up on YouTube if you're not sure what I mean.Can I use a laser from a DVD player to do the same thing?
