Looking for a good audio production computer setup?

I'm going to start college soon, and I'm going to major in audio production. I know I'll need a computer with a good sound card and good recording software, but I don't know where to start looking. Someone, please, help me out here. What do I need to get to have a good computer to get for this kind? What is some good/necessary hardware and good recording software (I've heard mac's Pro Tools is amazing)?
