Is it incorrect to say album when speaking of a new...

...cd? I've always said albums & singles, but I've noticed alot of music industry people prefer to say "record", like a band has a new Record out.And then I was talking to an older person who said there are no such thing as albums to do with CD's, albums were only around when record players were.But then I've seen the word album used on wikipedia..Which is right?
