Ipod trouble. Please help!!?

I have a video Ipod since '06 and just recently the headphone jack is messing up. I can only hear out of one side, and the other only if I hold the jack down. Is there a way of cleaning it or another possible way so I can hear out of both sides. This happens with so far 3 different headphones.Hope this makes sense!!
