iPod problem...?

I'm having a stress! My iPod is not connecting to my computer. My iPod is working, still playing music and video's but when i try to connect it to my computer its saying that the USB device is not recognized?! I have the up to date software and everything.I really need help! I have no idea what to do?!HELP!
