If I rebuild a computer do the memory stick ports...

...work with a new motherboard? I'm using an older case which ran Windows XP MCE, which had memory card ports, and usb ports in the front. If I were to purchase a new mother board would I be able to utilize the components are would I need to program it? And how would I do so.
