if get the iphone, can i use internet through...

...my 2wire wifi router that i use my laptop on? i am planning to buy the iphone, i do not have enough money to go for the plan that has internet on it, i saw that the ipod touch has wifi, where you can connect to a wifi network, can you do that with the iphone? and is the iphone a better choice than the ipod touch?i want to use the wifi on safarican i use the iphone without the sim card?
