I can't access my color settings for 256

colors in Windows 98, what should I do!? My computer recently had a virus and I brought it to the technician who installed Windows 98. It works. The only problem is when I go into settings and try to change my screen resolution to 800 x 600. The only thing I get is 16 bits and a screen resolution lower than 800 x 600. Is it possible that Windows is incomplete or needs an update to 256 colors. Everything works except the right amount of colors for displaying the graphics. I am suprised that I only have 16 bits instead of 32 or 256 colors. Thanks for your advice.
