How do you format a Notebook that doesn't...

...have a Windows XP Disk? I have a HP Pavilion Notebook that is running Windows XP Media Center. My disk drive has 2 partitions: C: for my operating system files, applications, etc... and D: for HP_Recovery to reinstall my computer to factory settings. I want to format my C: drive because recovery just writes over the current files. I can't access the D:HP_RECOVERY, there is a large gold lock when I try to explore the drive to access the installation files. HP Recovery in my C: drive has PC Recovery Disk Creator but when I try to use that option it states that I have already created the disks, which I have not done. Is ther any way for me to format my C: partion and reinstall XP Media Center without having been provided a disk when I purchased this HP Notebook?
