How do I enter safe mode in Windows XP?

When I restart it and tap F8, I get a bunch of technical jargon.Something likeFloppy 31/2IDE-05 (Something like that)CD ROM -??? -networkNetworkNow I want to run a scan, and I hear the best way is to do it in Safe Mode (which sort of is common sense), but I want to know how do I get in safe mode from there.Thanks a million!!!
