Help with my windows 98 computer,wont boot up?

It say's,Data error reading drive C Abort,retry,Ignore Fail.Could this be that the hard drive has gone bad? Or what. ThanksI got a new computer,but I still want to try and save this one,but hopefully I can get this fixed.
