I have Windows 2000 & i can send 1 on 1 but not...

...see whats sent to me? I have windows 2000. and have downloaded version 8.1yahoo messenger. I can send ims 1 on 1, but not see what is being sent to me 1 on 1. If I am invited to conference I can see everything. How can I correct this?
