i have a motherboard with a 462 socket and

i was wandering if it would support a pentium 4 processer? I dont know the make or model of the motherboard and i am new to the motherboard world! I currently have an amd athlon 1800+ processer in it just now and i want to put a faster processer in it, what would be the fastest processer the motherboard could support? also is it better to get a pentium 4 or an amd athlon? Thanx in advance.Dan
