Do you need to buy and manually install windows when

replacing a motherboard? or do you only need to do that when buying a new hard drive?Im planning on still using my current hard drive.Also, can you have an IDE connected harddrive with a SATA drive? My comp currently has IDE but Im thinking about connecting a SATA to go along with it.
