Computer Extension Issues, please help?

I have a toshiba laptop, for a while everything worked fine, but now whenever i try to connect any sort of extention such as a USB drive, Printers, or even my 3 1/2 Floppy extension it doesnt accept it. All it says is that the device has malfunctioned, yet they work on my desktop computer. Please help!
