Can you please help me connect my PC

(Running Windows XP) to my Macbook (Running Mac OSX Leopard)? I am trying to set up a network between my Mac and PC using ethernet cables.I have no idea what to do, and have NO computer knowledge so can please keep as simple as possible and maybe do it step-by-step as well.Thanx a squillion.
