Can a pc or laptop hardrive be connected to a portable

dvd player? and if so how can it be done? thanks !!? I HAVE ALWAYS WONDERED THIS. I KNOW THAT THE PS3 AND THE XBOX HAVE THIS FEATURE BUT IT WOULD BE COOL TO SAVE MOVIES TO A HARDRIVE AND PLAY THEM THROUGH THERE. THANKS FOR YOUR RESPONSES.
