Can DVD player plays data dvd? I dont know if...

...I should select copy data dvd, dvd video or copy vcd using nero? I want to burn vcd onto a dvd. I even tried converting the vcd into dvd format using Apex mpeg vcd to dvd program but it wouldn't recognize my vcd files. What gives?
