I assume you mean: Can I connect a computer running XP to one running Vista. If this is correct, then yes you certainly can. You just need a network cable and with right TCP/IP config your good to go!

I'll assume you mean one XP computer to one running windows vista and you want a hardwired connection between the two. Yes you can. You can either connect them with an ethernet cable and set them up in a network configuration or go the easy way and get a Belkin transfer cable. The cable comes with software and instructions and it is simple to set up and transfer/view files from each computer.

I'll try a simpler anser, yes. You don't really need a router you can use a switch or a hub also. And you don't need to worry about all the technical stuff ,just use the networking wizards that windows provides. Good luck
