Yes. With blu-ray for the ps3, games can have more content, use a better physics engine, and games can support a higher polygon count. It's totally worth the money. I'm thinking of buying it.What it means is, More Gameplay + More Realistic Feel + Damn Good Graphical Power = Better Than XBox 360 and Nintendo Wii

What people are fogetting is that storage mediums evolve as time goes on. We didn't always have the DVD to put stuff on. Before DVDs we had CDs and then before that we had floppy and zips etc etc. Blu-Ray is just the next evolution in storage.Whether people realize it or not, all Microsoft did was push the envelope on the current DVD technology, which is fine for now, but it won't be sufficient in the future, and that's where Blu-Ray comes in. Because they use a blue laser to burn and read the discs they can cram TONS of information into onto the disc, which allows for more data to be added in to take advantage of the amazing power that BOTH systems have. Also as a side note, but Blu-Ray players are starting to hit the marketplace, and they are a lot more expensive that the PS3 is going to be so you need to consider what you're getting. If they are actually going to put a decent drive in the PS3 unlike they did with the PS2, then getting it at 600 bucks is a HUGE steal because you're getting the Blu-Ray drive AND the system for less than just the commercial Blu-Ray player. But, only time will tell if Blu-Ray will go the way of the Beta tapes, but I severely doubt it.
