NoviiMedia NoviiRemote Deluxe 3.22[/CENTER]
Considering how easily most remotes get lost, using a handheld as a universal remote control for your TV, stereo, or other electronic equipment would seem to be a dicey proposition. But if you like living dangerously, or you just can't resist the appeal of finding another interesting use for your handheld, then NoviiRemote may be worth the risk.
NoviiRemote helps solve one of the major problems of modern-day electronics: remote control overkill. It you have a stereo, a television, a VCR, and a DVD player, it doesn't take long to get buried underneath a pile of remote controls. Switching between remotes is annoying at best (assuming you can find them when you need them), and a lack of consistency between the various button layouts and functions doesn't help, either. NoviiRemote lets you turn your Palm PDA into a universal remote control, so you can use a single device to control everything. You still have to manage to find the PDA when you need it, though. Even NoviiRemote can't eliminate that particular problem.
The user interface is colorful and easy to navigate. You can work with the default layouts, or move, add, remove, or rename buttons to create your own custom layout. You can program NoviiRemote to use your handheld's buttons as controls, or you can use the buttons on the program's interface.
An Add New Device wizard walks you through the process of adding your various electronics to NoviiRemote's controls. The wizard offers four options. You can train NoviiRemote by using the current remote for each of your electronic devices. If you've misplaced the remote, or you just want to save time, NoviiRemote includes approximately 100 preinstalled infrared codebases for popular TVs, VCRs, DVD players, and stereos. You can also make a copy of an existing codebase, or import a codebase from a previous version of NoviiRemote.
NoviiRemote also includes macro support. You can use the built-in macro editor to run existing macros to perform functions such as turning on several devices with the single press of a button, or create your own macros.
Pros: Easy to use. Supports a wide range of devices and models. Highly customizable.
Cons: Subjecting an expensive handheld device to the daily rough-and-tumble use of a typical (and considerably less expensive) remote control is not without its risks.
