i already have cingular as my carrier. and i'm...

...confused about the iphone!!! it's says that u have to get a contract to activate it. but if i already have a contract with cingular can i just put my cingular sim card on the phone and it will work?thanksi just got my contract renew a month ago for a two year contract!!!
