after start-up windows xp loads, screen goes black?

i already reformatted my pc, and after the windows xp loads, it will go black, but when i chose to boot my computer from a previous working state, it changed the problem, and sometimes if will return... how can i fix this? plz help me... by the way, every time i boot my computer, the date will always reset to 2004..
